In the past several years, the ketogenic diet has grown in popularity. And nowhere is that more obvious than on Instagram, where hundreds of accounts and hashtags are dedicated to the very low-carb, high-fat way of eating.

What’s with the rise in popularity? The No. 1 reason people turn to keto is for its potential weight loss benefits — at least in the short term, says Abby Langer, RD, of Toronto, the founder of Abby Langer Nutrition.

That’s not to say it’ll be easy, though. The diet, made up of primarily high-fat foods and relatively few carbs, is a far cry from the way most Americans normally eat, and Langer says it's notoriously difficult to follow correctly. Also, depending on your individual health, keto may not be the best fit for you, so be sure to check with your doctor before trying this plan. Once you’ve gotten the green light, turn to Instagram for meal ideas, along with inspiration to stay on track.

Whether you’re just starting out on the keto diet or have been a keto cheerleader for years, here are eight Instagram accounts to follow for motivation, inspiration, and photos of delicious keto-friendly foods.

Michael Schmitt

To fill your Instagram feed with pretty food pics, look no further. This Instagram account is an extension of the blog All Day I Dream About Food. Author Carolyn Ketchum was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during her third pregnancy, which motivated her to try keto after her baby was born. She didn’t want to give up her favorite foods, so she tweaked them to make them low-carb and keto-friendly (posting about recipes for faves like brownies, muffins, and sugar cookies). The bottom line? Keto doesn’t have to feel like deprivation.

Cooking at home doesn’t always mean you’ll spend the same amount of time cooking as you do scrubbing down the kitchen afterward — especially if you follow the recipes posted by this account. Nearly every recipe they post about, from the Candied Bacon to the Keto Butter Chicken With Jalapeño, can be made in one piece of cast iron cookware (and the recipes are also 100 percent gluten free). Plus, with a recipe posted nearly every day, you’ll never run out of cooking ideas.
